This June will mark the 10th anniversary of our football funday for adults with learning disabilities!!! Our next Funday is on 10.30-2pm Tuesday 19th June2018@The Zone, St Andrew’s Road, Huddersfield, HD1 6PT.

As this also falls in learning disability awareness week and the football world cup this will be a special event with medals for participation, a photographic exhibition of the Pixel mates project by Shabang Inclusive learning, and we have a very guest, Huddersfield Giants Legend, Eorl Crabtree!!! He is very nice.

Please share this email with your contacts.

To book places please email the completed booking form (attached) to Alex.Feather1@swyt.nhs.uk or ring 01484-343150/0782-7232698. Places are limited and will be allocated on first come first served basis. Once booked on please inform us if people cannot attend so places can be allocated to others as this event is usually oversubscribed.

Please make every effort to arrive on time so that coaching staff can access needs and ensure that the activities are safe, appropriate and fun for all concerned.

Venue: There is plenty of parking for minibuses. There is a reasonably priced café and you can order food when you arrive and plenty of seating.

Activities will be facilitated by a mixture of coaches provided by our partners The FA, Huddersfield Community Trust and Shelley CFC with the assistance of staff from NHS learning disabilities and Creative Minds. We have introduced a new game of football rounders on the pitch for people using wheelchairs. We can also provide people with information on the day about other activities and sources of activities for people to get involved with.

Cost: £3 per person (carers/staff/spectators are not charged).

Football Fun Day Activities – important notice to carers/organisations - Please READ

The Fun Day Activities are ball-based activities adjusted to meet individual needs including those in wheelchairs. As part of the Football Fun Day players will be taking part in a number of low / moderate level physical activities that might be individual and team-based. While all activities are managed and controlled by the coaches leading the event, and are pitched at a suitable level for the group, we cannot be fully responsible for the physical health of the players taking part. The intensity of the activities will be variable and players participation is completely limited by them / their carers. We do make every effort to ensure that all players are included, and that the level of activity is not deemed as too strenuous/offputting. Care has been taken to plan activities that are fully inclusive for people with Learning difficulties and other associated issues. There will be a learning disability physio staff in attendance at the event.

Please use the attached physical activity readiness questionnaire which you may find helpful to ascertain a person’s suitability to take part.

Carers should:

1. Speak to staff/coaches if they have a concern over an individual.

2. Inform coaches/staff that a service user has issues which may put them at risk in taking part in any activity.

3. Observe service users that they are responsible for at all times.

4. Leave the pitch or take breaks as necessary (some breaks are built into the programme)

Best wishes
